Total Solar Eclipse Watch Party In-Person
Come join our eclipse watch party! Weather permitting, the eclipse visits Illinois beginning at 1:58 pm CDT with the final exit of the Moon’s shadow from the state at 2:06 pm CDT. The Library is providing free solar eclipse glasses for patrons to safely watch the total solar eclipse. Our telescopes, which are fitted with Orion Safety Film Solar Filters, can be used with your glasses for safe viewing at the library. A pair of glasses will be distributed to anyone 14 and older on a first-come, first-served basis, along with information about safe viewing of the eclipse.
Note: Viewing any part of the bright Sun through any magnifying device without a special-purpose solar filter secured over the front of the optics will cause severe eye injury.
